Silver Stables Ranch — 40 acres of high-desert pasture outside Durango, Colorado

Our story

Built on the belief that every horse deserves a second chance

Silver Stables Ranch was founded in 2022 on 36 acres of high-desert land outside Florissant, Colorado. What started as one woman's decision to take in two neglected horses has grown into a full sanctuary caring for 12 horses — and counting.

Our mission

We rescue horses from neglect, abuse, and abandonment. We provide lifelong sanctuary care when adoption isn't possible. And we publish every dollar we spend — because transparency is the foundation of trust.

Lifelong commitment

We never re-surrender a horse. Every animal that arrives at Silver Stables stays for life, regardless of medical complexity or cost.

Radical transparency

Every program has a named budget. Every donation is tracked. Our Impact Dashboard updates in real time so donors always know where their money goes.

Science-based care

Our protocols are developed with our veterinarians and reviewed annually. We don't guess — we follow evidence.

Community roots

We are a Colorado nonprofit. Our volunteers, donors, and partner businesses are our neighbors. We believe local relationships build lasting change.

How it started

Sometimes, the most meaningful journeys begin with something you never knew was missing. When ranch founder Tammy Danley purchased a home on 36 beautiful acres in the Colorado countryside, she envisioned a peaceful life surrounded by nature. Yet, despite having the land and the home, something still felt incomplete. At first, the idea was simple: perhaps a few goats would bring a little more life and personality to the property. But as life often does, a series of unexpected events led Tammy in an entirely different direction. Instead of goats, she discovered horses—and, more importantly, a need that was impossible to ignore.

In the spring of 2022, Tammy Danley drove four hours to Harmony Equine Center in Franktown, Colorado, and came home with two horses she had no plan for. She had a pasture, a barn, and a conviction that these animals deserved better than what they had known. She learned that many senior, neglected, abandoned, and special-needs horses face uncertain futures simply because they can no longer work, be ridden, or fulfill the purposes they once served. These remarkable animals, many of whom have spent their lives giving so much to people, deserve more than to be forgotten when their working years are over.

What began as a desire to bring a few animals home grew into something far more meaningful. In 2023, Silver Stables Ranch, Inc. was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to provide a safe, compassionate sanctuary where horses can live with dignity, receive the care they deserve, and enjoy their remaining years surrounded by kindness. By the end of 2026, Silver Stables Ranch had become a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, a licensed sanctuary, and home to twelve equines — each with a name, a story, and a vet file. Today, the ranch is more than a home for horses. It is a testament to the belief that an animal's worth is never measured by what it can do for us, but by the life it deserves to live. We built our donor platform around one principle: if you give us money, you should be able to see exactly where it went. The Impact Dashboard was our answer to that promise. Every program budget, every milestone, every donation — published in real time.

Where the money goes

Where your donation goes

Every dollar donated to Silver Stables Ranch is allocated to one of four named programs. Funding bars update in real time on our Impact Dashboard.

Senior Horse Care Fund

Specialized nutrition, dental care, and joint supplements for horses over 15 years old.

Senior horses require significantly more resources than younger animals. This fund covers high-calorie senior feed, bi-annual dental floats, joint injections, and the daily medication that horses like Rio and Duke depend on to stay comfortable.

Emergency Veterinary Fund

Covers unexpected injuries, colic surgery, and critical care for any horse in the herd.

A single colic surgery can cost $8,000–$15,000. This fund ensures we never have to make a financial decision in a medical emergency. It is replenished by donors after every draw-down, and our Impact Dashboard shows its current balance in real time.

Pasture Expansion

Fencing, grading, and seeding to add 8 acres of safe grazing land for the growing herd.

Our current 40 acres supports 23 horses, but responsible stocking rates require more land as the herd grows. Phase one — 4 acres of new fencing — is complete. Phase two adds a second water system and native grass seeding across the remaining acreage.

$0 raisedGoal: $35,000 — 0%

Behavioral Training Program

Professional ground work and gentling sessions for newly rescued horses like Willow and Sage.

Horses arriving from neglect or wild capture often have no positive human experience. This program funds Priya's full-time training schedule, enrichment materials, and the slow, patient work that turns a fearful animal into a trusting one.
